CMP Solmar hosts 40 Dutch architects: discovering the marble supply chain

In April, CMP Solmar organised a visit for training purposes for a delegation of forty young Dutch architects aimed at deepening the understanding of the initial stages of the marble supply chain.

The itinerary began at a sawmill in Carrara where it was possible to observe the transformation of the raw material into slabs, and then continued in a production company, where the processing of the slabs is carried out. The visit then proceeded with an inspection at the prestigious Vagli Quarry, a site of excellence for the extraction of blocks.

The Vagli Quarry is one of the oldest and most internationally renowned extraction basins. Stone varieties of exceptional value are obtained from this quarry, such as Calacatta Vagli Oro, Arabescato Vagli and Calacatta Viola, materials chosen by the most important global architectural firms. Among the important works made with this marble are the Sala Nervi in the Vatican, St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, the UN Security Council Room in New York, the Mausoleum of Bourghiba in Tunis and the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Bendigo in Australia.
